My Top 4 Healthy & Satisfying Daily Treats

Updated: Jan 6

I have to give credit to my son, Ryker for finding these. His obsession with how nutrition affects athletic performance can sometimes feel a little overwhelming and I often have to remind him that TikTok is not always the best place to find reliable information (cue eye roll), but he has actually become a somewhat decent resource for our family when it comes to finding great tasting protein bars. The rise bar is absolutely delicious! The almond honey flavor is our family favorite and with only 3 ingredients (almonds, honey and whey protein isolate), I feel really good about seeing it in our snack cabinet. You can order it directly from the company's website or buy it on Amazon as well. You're welcome :-)

The RXBAR has long been my favorite snack on the go! I've tried all the flavors and I have to say I'm a loyal fan of the Peanut Butter. To me it tastes like chewy peanut brittle! Similar to the rise bar, I absolutely love that it has only 3 natural ingredients. I always have one of these hanging out in the bottom of my purse in case of a hunger emergency and also always have a few in the glove compartment of my car. I love a snack that can hold me over for hours! You can find them in your favorite grocery store or order a box on Amazon. They come in a mini size too!

Here is a fact about me. I eat 2 breakfasts. My early morning breakfast is always the same: 2 soft boiled eggs and coffee. For years, I've eaten the same thing and for me, it works. But, by mid morning I'm ready for round #2 and I usually make myself an English muffin, oatmeal or a piece of toast with jam and a slice of cheese. Lately, though, I have added a new option to my 2nd Breakfast menu: Trader Joe's Morning Muffin in a Mug ! This is such an absolute satisfying and EASY treat to make. Simply buy the bag of Organic Rolled Oats with Ancient Grains & Seeds and follow the directions on the back of the bag. In 5 minutes, you will have yourself a warm, delicious and satisfying muffin that tastes way more sinful than it is. Some days I add blueberries, craisins and even a few chocolate chips. Peanut butter would be good too, I think. YUM!

I have absolutely no idea why it has taken me so long to become OBSESSED with Rooibos tea, also known as Red Bush Tea made from a South African shrub. I've always really liked black tea because it reminds me of the full bodied taste of coffee, but herbal teas don't really call my name as much. I have a hard time getting excited about drinking them unless someone else offers to makes it for me and we are enjoying it together. If left to my own devices, I will always choose coffee, but I am conscious of my caffeine intake which is why I am ECSTATIC that I have discovered Rooibos. It's rich, and slightly sweet and tastes a little bit like vanilla and caramel, especially if you let it steep a while. Adding a little bit of milk and a touch of honey makes it even more of a treat! And there is absolutely no caffeine! It's also rich in antioxidants which can help prevent cancer, heart disease and stroke. Give it a try the next time you're looking for a healthy late afternoon pick me up!
